Alri watched as the blue sky around her darkened to black and the small ship rose through the atmosphere. The controls were unfamiliar, and she knew she had to stay alert. She had run through everything on the ground, and in their makeshift simulator. Still, there was always a danger she'd make a mistake and get herself killed miles above the ground.
The stars were dim through the windshield and she upped the contrast on her display, careful to turn the ship away from the planet, towards deep space. The constellations were not ones she really recognized -- she made a note to learn them once she got back down. You never know when you need things like that, though she didn't intend on doing interplanetary ops anytime soon, and the sensors were working well enough.
She had returned home.
