Physical Description
Bree is a large bay horse, with a black mane and tail. Though he's of human intelligence, he has few physical marks to distinguish himself from a normal horse. He will wear a blanket when he and Shay are riding, and a saddle only if he expects trouble (or is carrying supplies) -- under normal circumstances, he and Shay work together to keep Shay seated as Bree moves. The red ring on his blanket is a marking of his status as a healer.
Personality
Bree is what happened if someone reincarnated Bones McCoy from Star Trek into the body of a telepathic horse. He's bossy, acerbic and generally convinced that everyone around him ignores doctor's advice. On the other hand, he's also compassionate and willing to move heaven and earth so that lives are saved.History
Bree's ancestors came from the Rezean plains to the west, but most work as ranchers, helping the humans of Aldis manage horses, cows and sheep. Bree grew up in a herd, but was far more interested in humans than most rhyhorses and more of a scholarly bent. In between spending time with Shay, a human rancher's son, he started memorizing herbs and showed some talent for arcana beyond the Mind Touch that let rhyhorses speak to others. When they both grew up, he and Shay left for the capital, where Bree was able to train as a healer as well as learn mounted combat maneuvers with Shay. Since then, he's been Shay's partner.
Relationships
- Shay and Bree are inseparable life companions, with a bond that can only be broken by one of their deaths.
- Bree is one of two healers Melisan will let near him, and as a result, he nags him constantly about his health adn well-being.
- Bree likes Parisa and is quite willing to talk shop with her, and has a sort of grudging affection for Naria.
